Angela Gillen Powers

Angela is an experienced leader and strategic thinker with demonstrated success in mobilizing board, volunteer, and executive leadership in developing and implementing strategies to achieve a shared vision within philanthropic organizations. She formerly held the position of senior vice president for planning and operations and COO of The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven, where she developed the foundation’s strategic plan, including new mission and vision statements, and designed and implemented a system for quarterly metrics reviews to formalize institutional learning and adaptation.   

Before becoming COO, Angela lead The Foundation’s development and communications department, strengthening its branding as a philanthropic leader with the launch of an improved website, new print and electronic publications, and the community-wide giving event, The Great Give.  Additionally, she revamped product, pricing, and services offerings to align with donor expectations and internal capacity, and strengthened donor services, which led to a documented high satisfaction rating among donors and increased referrals from professional advisors. From 2004-2007, Angela also served as the founding CEO of the Valley Community Foundation, an affiliated foundation in Derby, Conn. 

Angela holds a bachelor's degree from Fairfield University. She was a founding member of Adnet (Advancement Network for Community Foundations) and was a past board member of the Planned Giving Groups of Connecticut. Throughout her career, she has served in numerous leadership positions in philanthropy, and is a frequent presenter at professional conferences.

Angela worked with EAC’s founding partner, Helmer Ekstrom at the firm’s beginning in 1998.
